Indian English literature or Indo Anglican literature or Indian writing in English is a constituent of Commonwealth literature. Indian literature has several kinds of literature such as Tamil, Telegu, Sanskrit, Hindi, Bengali, Punjabi, Oriya, Sindhi, Kashmiri, Marathi, Malayalam, and Indian writing in English and so on. Indian English literature has contributed much to world literature. Indian writing in English is a blend of Indian literature and English literature. It pleases Indians and English men. It rose in India during British rule in India. In the early days, Indian prophets and poets like Rammohan Roy, Vivekananda, Tagore, Tilak, Gokale, and Gandhi wrote in English and enticed the national literature. The early poet in Indian English writing who gave re-interpretation about myths is Sri Aurobindo. The initial Indian novel written in English is Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay`s ‘Rajmohan’s Wife’ in 1864. It is published in the English weekly periodical, the Indian Field.
